What are my loaves and fishes?

Lately I have been pondering the idea of how far-reaching our testimony can be.  I once heard a story of a man called Jenner of George Street who spent many years handing out gospel tracts in Sydney, Australia.  He did this faithfully every day, having very short, if any, conversations with people.  He had no idea if the work he was doing reaped any fruit.  It was years later, before Jenner died, that the Lord was gracious to send someone to tell him about his own life being changed by that gospel tract he received, and not only that, about the many, many others that had shared that same testimony.  Actually, some went on to faithfully serve the Lord themselves in ministry, and seen others come to know Christ as well.  Jenner himself probably spoke with 100,000 people about the Lord – but I wonder how many of those people went on to also speak with others that Jenner never rubbed shoulders with.

And how about the amazing reach that we can have through social media today?  I shared a prayer request last night on facebook that was shared about another 20 times since.  I’ve seen it shared for the past 3 days by numerous people I know, but I realized that although our friend circles overlap, I know people my sisters may not know, or my other friends, and it just multiplies so rapidly.  I’m sure there is no way I could tally the number of people that are now praying for this dear child.  What I do know for sure is that there are people around the entire globe praying with like mind to a loving heavenly Father because of an avenue that was not available years ago.

It is entirely true that there are certain things that are ‘more popular’ and move quickly around social media.  That’s not my point.  But, remember Jenner?  He was just one man faithfully serving in the area God placed him.  It just strikes me that we should remember to ‘not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. (Galatians 6:9)

What a blessing that God can, and does, use our little loaves and fishes!

Only fear the Lord and serve Him faithfully with all your heart. For consider what great things He has done for you. I Samuel 12:24
