Where does God have you?

At one point in my life I was struggling with living out of suitcases for months on end while our family traveled from camp to camp doing ministry. Although we were having a blast traveling around, meeting people, and Scott was ministering the Word, there were times I struggled with my attitude about what the Lord was requiring of me. Sometimes, when I let the enemy have his way with me, I would feel like all I did of any value was keep my little ones out of the way of the programs that were going on that were not meant for us.

At one such camp, the Lord sent a sweet lady my way who made a passing comment to me that would stick to me like glue, and it would come back to my mind when I most needed the reminder (aka – kick in the pants!). She, too, knew the way I felt, because she had done the same thing for many, many years. When I asked her about how she handled living out of a suitcase for so long, she said, “I just decided I would do my best at being despot of the suitcase, since that’s my current home.” I thought that was brilliant! And I instantly knew it was just what I needed to hear, as well. I have no idea what her early years of traveling summer camps was like, but whether that came naturally to her or not, I knew it was the attitude I needed to adopt.

Well, wouldn’t you know that the Lord had me reliving that lesson over and over for many years! And now, here’s my current situation.

Even though I’d be completely lying not to admit that this has been hard on all of us in some ways, it’s also been a blessing. And, we’ve seen the Lord providing opportunities that we would not have had, were we not camping these past 14 days. I may be living out of a tent/ car for the time being, but there is beauty in knowing that I am right where God wants me to be. Today I’m despot of the tent.

(* despot – one with authority ; from I Timothy 5:14, where women are told to “manage their households” being a keeper of the home *)

What circumstance does the Lord have you to be facing right now that is not what you had anticipated for your life?

The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes His steps – Proverbs 16:9

As for God, His way is perfect: The Lord’s word is flawless; He shields all who take refuge in Him – Psalm 18:30

Commit your way to the Lord, trust in Him, and He will do it – Psalm 37:5

Trust in Him at all times; pour out your hearts to Him, for God is our refuge – Psalm 62:8

Thank you so much for sharing. I agree, living where God has put you is not always easy, but it is the best thing for us. Good word on attitudes.
