Walk With God in 2018

Everyone who knows me knows that I am a creature of habit.  Every year since I was 12, my new year's resolution has been the same, and I think it will be until I die! It's more of a New Year's prayer.  (you can read about it here) The past couple of years I have also adopted a 'word' to define something I wanted to work on in my life.  This year, I knew instantly what that would be - it never was even anything I needed to think over. Walk With God! In some aspects, I have been walking with

I will trust in You

So much sadness and groaning on this earth! Although I've been fighting personal discouragement, it seems so small and insignificant compared to what so many are going through. So, today as I was thinking about everything, a quote from a book I just read popped into my head. And I laughed. It was something about letting 'God be all up in my business'. So I turned on the christian radio in time for just one song.   When You don't move the mountains I'm needing You to

The Loonie Anniversary and Young People’s Encouragement

21 years!  That's what we celebrated this month!  Since we were both 21 when we got married, this seemed like a momentous occasion.  We've had some anniversaries that we've done big things together; had fancy meals, taken trips away, spent money on special gifts, etc.   It was so nice and refreshing to just have a slow day, spend time in each other's company, just be low key about the 'celebrating'.  In fact, we were not sure that we would be able to 'celebrate' at all, since we didn't have any

Over-the-top Radical?

The Lord has really been challenging me hard.  I realize more and more how weak my faith is.  I laugh that at one point in my life I actually thought I was good at that 'trusting' thing.  Good at not worrying about stuff.  Good at giving everything to God and not taking it back. But when you hit a place where you've been giving something to the Lord for so long - you keep telling Him you trust Him completely - you wait for His answer with confident expectation - and yet it seems to drag on

Then I was beside Him as a master craftsman; And I was daily His delight, Rejoicing always before Him, Rejoicing in His inhabited world, And my delight was with the sons of men. Proverbs 8:30,31 But let those who love Him be like the sun When it comes out in full strength. Judges 5:31b These verses were both part of my Bible study today, and I just loved how the scriptures fit together! The verses in Proverbs are about wisdom's presence with God in creation, and particularly the

A fortress and a refuge!

Have you ever read a verse in the Old Testament that you just really loved, but then you have to do mental gymnastics to see if it applies to you?  I'm thankful we don't live in the Old Testament and that I can wear my cotton/polyester blend tshirt that I have on, because it's just so comfortable!  And I'm even more thankful that Scott can shave around the corners of his face - because I'm just not a fan of big, bushy beards! When I read promises of God in scripture that I love, I know that

Every good gift and every perfect gift!

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.  James 1:17 Today I was walking in the ocean, just enjoying the sun and the feel of the cold water on my feet.  It was an area where there was a lot of  seaweed and junk, especially since it's been quite windy here.  I had to watch my step carefully because there were a lot of things that could cut my feet; hooks, sharp glass, rusted metals,

Running hard through trials

There is a really interesting aspect to running hard. My husband and I recently watched the movie Chariots of Fire, and there was this scene with a close-up on the runners’ faces, and the guy who won the race was so relaxed that you could see his cheek skin flapping around. The coach was telling the man whose face was so tense that it was an indication that he had the ability to run better, if he could just loosen up.  In order to run hard and run your best, you have to let go of the tension and

Just Ask!

One of the beautiful attributes of our great God is that He loves for us to ask Him for the things He longs to give us!  When our kids ask Scott and I for things, we, as parents, have to determine if those things are good for them.  We consider things such as whether or not they are asking for something they need, how much the cost is, what benefit it would be to them and/or others, etc. Sometimes it is hard for us to determine how we should pray in the will of God, knowing the truth of I
